June 7, 2004: Santa Barbarans were among the over 10,000 people who came to pay their respects to the 40th President of the United States, as he lay in state at the Simi Valley Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

I Madonnari Festival
. Street painting, using chalk as the medium, is an Italian tradition dating to the 16th century. The Madonna was the most reproduced artwork. In Italy, the tradition lives on in the village of Grazie di Curtatone.
here, on the plaza of the old Santa Barbara Mission "I Madonnari" Italian Street Painting Festival takes place every year in May. Live music, an authentic Italian market, a choice of Italian cuisine and specialty items are on hand to entertain several hundred visitors.
"I Madonnari" is produced by The Children's Creative Project. The Street Painting Festival proceeds and the newly established Children's Creative Project Endowment Fund support arts education programs for 80.000 schoolchildren.
