Background: Ruth Ellen Hoag, a former musician, endeavors to bring to the visual arts the sensibilites found in music. Her watercolor style is vivid, expressive and immediate. As a figurative painter, many of her subjects are musicians and dancers, anyone involved in activity and motion, but she also loves the quiet intimacy of portraying the nude. The figure also appears in many of her Santa Barbara landscapes.

Ruth's paintings have been in many local and national exhibits and publications, winning awards along the way. Her work appears in corporate and private collections throughout the United States and abroad. Locally, "Cowgirl Fiddler" hangs above the fireplace at Northstar Coffee company, a work done "live" last summer during several Saturday evening events at the popular downtown hot spot..
